This home is an excellent example of what can be achieved on a smaller block. The client commissioned Alexander Architects to design a home that would make maximal use of their block in a high-density-living zone in the City of Joondalup. The architects recommended Hollywood Builders to build the home, having been impressed with their earlier work. John met with the clients and worked closely with them and the architects to deliver the result they wanted.

The home is built almost from boundary to boundary, which presented unique challenges in the construction of the home. Detailed planning was critical in order to ensure that everything was completed in a specific order, since side access would be impossible once the brickwork was completed. Continuous communication with the neighbours was also essential since the building work was taking place so close to them.

The finished product is a beautiful, spacious home completely in keeping with the natural Australian landscape nearby and perfectly suiting the owners' tastes.

The dramatic vaulted ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glass in the upstairs lounge room adds significantly to the sense of space in the home, while defining the home's architectural style. Natural materials like limestone, jarrah, cedar and terracotta are used throughout the home in keeping with the sense of harmony with nature.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in the beautiful courtyard, designed to feel like an extension of the living area. Specially-designed glass doors allow the border between the two rooms to disappear, leading you out onto an expansive jarrah deck surrounded on three sides by a tranquil fish pond. The native Australian plants match perfectly with the browns, reds and limestones used on the exterior of the home.

The clients were very impressed with the craftsmanship and attention to detail in the house and were very happy with the final finish. They have recommended Hollywood Builders to several of their friends.
