Although it may not appear so at first glance, this home was not built from scratch but was in fact extended and completely remodelled. It is a testament John and his team that such a distinctive and attractive home has been achieved, especially considering how different the design is to the original home.
The home had originally been built in a classical "Mediterranean" style, with a typical boxy shape and a completely flat roof. The clients had the vision to see that it could be transformed into a grand and beautiful residence, while making better use of the height of the block and the potential views. They chose Hollywood Builders to undertake the construction based on a strong recommendation.
At the rear of the house an additional two storeys were added, creating much-needed additional space for this young family, including three extra bedrooms and two bathrooms. Cleverly, the design of this extension was altered on John's recommendation, allowing a flat decking area to be created on top, giving the owners incredible 360° views of the ocean and surrounding area.
Interestingly, it was decided that this part of the extension would be built out of timber rather than traditional double-brick, since reducing the weight would eliminate the need to undermine the existing footings, saving the owners an enormous amount of money in construction costs.
The front elevation of the home was changed considerably, using beautiful western red cedar gables to create an elegant and distinctive style. This beautiful cedar panelling was continued throughout the external ceilings surrounding the home. The double garage was also completely rebuilt, with a new master bedroom added above.
The clients contributed a great deal to the interior design, using their own flair to make the home truly their own. Many of the design features, such as the magnificent fireplace in the lounge room, were imported from their home country, and feature mosaics were also added at the clients' request.
The clients couldn't have been happier with the overall result and they are really enjoying their new home.
